Subject: «Meeting of the GTSA with the Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity and Civil Society of the Municipality of Athens, Mrs. Katerina Gagaki, with the aim of supporting vulnerable trans persons in general, LGBTQI+ persons»
The Greek Transgender Support Association (GTSA), is a voluntary non-governmental organization that promotes the rights and freedoms of trans, gender-diverse and LGBTQI persons in general,as well as persons who work in sex, with this press release, informs about a meeting of representatives of the GTSA, with the Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity and Civil Society of the Municipality of Athens, Mrs. Katerina Gagaki.
The meeting took place at the new place of the Greek Transgender Support Association, on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 1:00 pm and lasted about 1.5 hours, in a very good atmosphere.
The main topic of discussion was the continuation of the cooperation of the Municipality of Athens with the GTSA, with the aim of supporting the most vulnerable trans, gender diverse and LGBTQI+ persons in general, and specifically the coverage of food products and basic necessities, for trans and LGBTQI persons who are in financial weakness, a cooperation that first started in early April 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and lasted throughout the lockdown period, where through it then it became possible to support 45 trans and LGBTQI persons on a weekly basis.
The Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity and Civil Society of the Municipality of Athens, Mrs. Katerina Gagaki, recognizing the need that exists, responded positively to the request of the GTSA.
Specifically:
The Municipality of Athens, through the GTSA, will support sixty (60) trans and LGBTQI+ persons living in the Attica region, with food products and basic necessities on a monthly basis, for six (6) months, while the action will start from month we are going through.
Priority will be given to trans, gender diverse and LGBTQI+ persons who are under unemployment status or with proven financial weakness and older trans persons and equal amounts of products will be given to all persons.
Those interested in joining the support program can contact the GTSA at 210 9210 697, every day from Monday to Friday and from 11:00 to 15:00, in order to book a meeting at the GTSA office and register their request.
We sincerely thank the Municipality of Athens and personally the Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity and Civil Society of the Municipality of Athens, Mrs. Katerina Gagaki, who stand by the work of our Association by supporting our fellow trans people, who due to the crisis, but mainly to the many and large exclusions they experience in their daily life and especially in the workplace, they are not able to cover their daily basic living needs.
